Steinway D Concert Grand Piano
This Model D concert grand piano was manufactured in 1881. This scale / model D started in 1878, but we distinguished it from the modern D by its family name “Centennial.” The scale began in 1875 as a 17 note bass, transitional-tenor-bridge design sectional case piano, style 4, 5 or 6, and without change began being called a D in 1878. In 1880, it got a continuous rim with the pillar legs (ending the serpentine legs) and in 1883 was discontinued. It was superseded by the modern D, 20 bass w 2 bridges, in 1884.
