Falcone Pianos: A Boutique Legacy of American Excellence

Falcone Piano Logo

Falcone pianos are among the lesser-known treasures in the world of fine acoustic instruments, yet they represent a distinctive chapter in American piano making. Built in limited quantities and designed with the input of passionate craftsmen and engineers, Falcone pianos offer a blend of refinement, boldness, and character that continues to resonate with discerning musicians.

At Pianos Now, we restore and present select Falcone pianos for those who appreciate their rare combination of tonal warmth, elegant cabinetry, and thoughtful design. Though no longer in production, these instruments remain a testament to what can happen when a small team of artisans devotes itself to musical quality above all else.

The Vision of Angelo Falcone

The Falcone Piano Company was founded in 1982 by Angelo Falcone, a concert technician and engineer who dreamed of creating a world-class piano using both traditional and modern approaches. While many piano companies aimed for volume, Falcone focused on quality. The original factory was located in Woburn, Massachusetts, and production numbers remained intentionally modest.

The instruments were carefully designed with extended tails, wider soundboards, and innovative scaling, allowing for rich bass and balanced projection even in smaller models. Falcone pianos quickly earned a reputation among artists, educators, and piano technicians as instruments with integrity and individuality.

Though the company faced financial and competitive pressures, production continued into the 1990s with a brief relocation to Haverhill, Massachusetts. Later iterations of the brand appeared under other ownership, but it is the original American-built models that remain most prized today.

What Sets a Falcone Piano Apart?

Falcone pianos were designed not to mimic the largest manufacturers, but to refine and personalize the piano experience for serious players. The design philosophy behind them emphasized tone, responsiveness, and longevity. Several features help these pianos stand out:

  • Wide-Tail Design

Falcone grands often featured a wider tail than traditional models of the same length. This allowed for a larger soundboard area, giving these pianos a surprisingly powerful bass and a more resonant overall tone.

  • Concert-Quality Scaling

Falcone engineers invested heavily in scale design, resulting in beautifully balanced treble and tenor registers. These instruments offer clarity without harshness and warmth without muddiness.

  • Responsive Action

Built for artists and advanced players, Falcone pianos were equipped with precision actions that provide a sensitive and articulate touch. The result is an expressive tool suitable for both classical and contemporary playing.

  • Premium Cabinetry

Falcone pianos are visually distinctive. Their cases are often finished in rich woods and designed with architectural grace. They reflect the company’s belief that a piano should be as elegant to look at as it is to play.

  • Handcrafted Philosophy

Each Falcone was built with the close attention of a small team, and this intimacy is felt in the cohesion of the instrument. These pianos were not mass-produced; they were sculpted.

Restoration at Pianos Now

Because Falcone pianos were built with high-quality materials and thoughtful engineering, they are ideal candidates for expert restoration. At Pianos Now, we honor the original design while ensuring that the instrument will perform reliably for decades to come.

Our restoration process may include:

  • Structural soundboard and bridge repairs

  • Action rebuilding with parts that match original touch weight and response

  • String replacement and tuning pin upgrades

  • Cabinet refinishing or polishing

  • Voicing to restore dynamic range and tonal character

  • Regulation to ensure consistent responsiveness across all registers

We believe restoration should reveal the voice of the piano, not overwrite it. Our aim is always to let the best version of the original instrument emerge.

Who Are Falcone Pianos For?

Falcone pianos appeal to those who seek more than a name. They are not designed for mass appeal. Rather, they offer a boutique experience for those who prioritize character, craftsmanship, and sound.

  • Advanced Pianists and Teachers

The responsive action and nuanced tone make Falcone pianos a joy to play and teach on. These instruments reward detail-oriented players.

  • Design-Conscious Owners

With their graceful silhouettes and fine finishes, Falcone pianos serve as elegant visual statements as well as musical ones.

  • Collectors and Enthusiasts

Those with an appreciation for American piano history or boutique builders will find Falcone pianos a compelling addition to their studio or collection.

  • Home Musicians

Whether practicing Chopin nocturnes or composing at the keyboard, Falcone pianos support an intimate yet expressive musical experience.

Common Models

While Falcone’s production was never large, a few models remain more commonly encountered in the pre-owned market:

  • Falcone FG-52 (5'2")

A compact grand with excellent tonal breadth for its size, thanks to the wide-tail design. Ideal for small spaces without sacrificing musicality.

  • Falcone FG-63 (6'3")

Often described as the flagship model, this instrument offers a concert-quality experience in a medium-size grand format. Suitable for studios and recital halls.

  • Falcone Uprights

Less common, but well-built with the same design ethos. Falcone uprights are known for their smooth action and mellow, well-balanced sound.

Because production numbers were low, each Falcone piano is somewhat unique, and original specifications may vary slightly between instruments.
